In addition to offering great tourist attractions such as the architecture of its Capital City, ecological tourism in Huasteca and the Magic Towns of Xilitla and Real de Catorce, San Luis Potosi is also known for its high-quality wine producers. As a result of all of these, is the first state in the country without beach, with the largest number of visitors.
The geographical characteristics and the climate of this region have allowed wine growth and development, with more than 100 hectares of vineyards in production and plantation.
This winery growth started back in 2010, when Carlos Quintanilla -current owner of Cava Quintanilla- was traveling through a French wine region where he realized that the conditions of the soil and the weather were similar to those in his hometown. He was convinced it was possible to do the same in our country, and he was right.
San Luis Potosi currently has four vineyards with competitive labels in the market: Pozo de Luna Wine, Quintanilla, 1881 and Viña Cordelia.
The grapes produced in the vineyards favor the elaboration of Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Malbec, Grenache, Tempranillo and Merlot, while Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay made white grapes are outstanding.
Every year, Festival Internacional del Vino de San Luis Potosí (San Luis Potosi International Wine Festival) is held, where for two days you can enjoy an extensive program that includes lunch and dinner pairing, music, art, competitions and of course the tasting of more than 300 wine labels from all over the world, as well as artisanal beers and more. This year it will take place on June 13th and 14th.
The state is already accountable in the wine world as a producer and it is becoming a gastronomic forum, as nowadays you can also find very fine restaurants and “mezcaleras”. So if you enjoy a glass of high-quality wine and great food, do not hesitate to visit San Luis Potosí.
