If you want to have a relaxed weekend, the perfect choice is to visit Huichapan, Hidalgo. The hot springs and delicious typical food of this Magical Town will delight you. To get there from Mexico City, take Mexico-Querétaro road, detour to Huichapan on kilometer 107, and to get to the hot springs detour to Tecozautla.
There are many water parks along the way, but the best one is “El Geiser”. This is not your typical aquatic spot, is more like a natural spa since its hot springs have healing properties. You can spend the night because there are cabins, a hotel, and a camping area or just pay your entrance per day.
As soon as you get inside, the first thing you will notice is a light sulfur smell (not strong at all) and feel the breeze of the vent of the volcano (one of the most impressive of Latin America) which is located within the facilities and is the main attraction of the place.
There are several pools, all with thermal water, but with different temperatures and depths. The most visited one has a waterfall, which will give you a full body massage.
You can also get some beauty treatments and if you like adventure, don´t forget to try the zip line. There are also water slides and kiddie pools for the little ones. “El Geiser” is a family friendly park, so everyone will have a good time.
If you get hungry, there is a restaurant inside the park or several grills in case visitors bring their own food. If you choose to try the local food, take the road to Huichapan, and visit the main market to have the best “carnitas” (braized pork) in town. You will also find delicious fresh bread in the bakeries around the Square.
