Mexican Coffee

A good cup of coffee is always satisfying, particularly when it comes to quality and good taste. Therefore, it is known that the Coffe produced in Mexico is one of the greatest found worldwide. 

In 1796 coffee from Cuba was introduced for the first time in Veracruz. From this time on, plantations were seeded in different regions of the country and today our industry embraces three producing areas: Chiapas, Veracruz and Oaxaca.

Coffee from Chiapas is known to be harvested on high grounds between the rainforest and the mist forests. Its production is considered mostly organic which causes its flavor to remain intact, due to the lack of external agents such as insecticides.

Veracruz coffee is the most famous abroad. During the 90´s it won several gold medals from the SCAA (Specialty Coffee Association of America) that certified it as the best in the world.

Oaxaca´s coffee is the most exported. Like Chiapas´, the majority of its production is organic, making its flavor very different from the European since it is more aromatic, intense and round in terms of sweetness, acidity and bitterness. 

Another producing state is Colima where the municipality of Comala grows coffee more than 1500 meters above sea level and is collected by hand from places very close to the volcano that sits on that area.

If you are in Mexico City, you can take a tour Downtown where in addition to visit emblematic places, you can drink a cup of coffee in many of its typical shops such as: 

  • Café Palace of Fine Arts (Café del Palacio de Bellas Artes): located within the facilities of the Palace.
  • Café Tacuba: found in 1912, it is a classic place that keeps several stories and tradition.
  • Café Santo Domingo: located in Santo Domingo Square, surrounded by buildings, Santo Domingo Temple, and former Palace of Holy Inquisition, now known as Medicine Museum.
